Updated Interior Shots

I've had so many outside projects that the inside of my house has been neglected for a while. But once again it's pouring rain outside, for the 28th day in a row, and I'm tired of working out in the damp and rain. So, I did a bit of cleaning inside. And emptied out some more stuff as I've lived in here for 7 months now and realized I still have things I don't really need or want. I feel the most relaxed when my space is tidy and clutter free. I got rid of an extra end table, chair, a box full of books, and a few other random things. Minimizing might continue for a while. Not having extra stuff is so relaxing and freeing, it's kind of addicting!

Most stuff is still in my kitchen. And I honestly use it all almost daily so I don't think this will ever be reduced much.

The living / dinning room is pretty open now and much easier to move around in when the table is folded out. And hanging the shoes on the wall by the door helped too. You can't really even see them in the shot below because they are totally out of the way.

I also tidied the sleeping loft which had been needing done for a while.

The storage loft need some work still. There are things up there that I almost never use and it's not organized in a way that allows me to access everything very easily. So I guess it's good that the stuff up there right now I don't really need.

Look at all that open floor space!

And I finished off the cleaning with some bright little flowers that were growing along the edge of the meadow above my house. The next project which I may start today if it keeps raining is to paint my walls white. We'll see how fast that goes...

  1. Are you going to use a white paints that helps ward against the mold? I think there are some brands that do that, but I haven't researched it. Just a thought.

    1. I'm planning to use Bio Shield paint. They are chemical free and I have used them before and liked them. I don't think I will paint the window frames anyway. Letting borax soak into the raw wood seems to be a huge help with the mold. It's been totally gone for months now, but I'm curious to see what happens when the weather gets very cold this fall again.

    2. I will have to check Bio Shield out. Chemical free sounds great.

Did you write a post about the borax soaking? How did you do it exactly? Thanks!

  2. Your place looks wonderful inside and out. Thank you for sharing all the progress with your home and teaching people like me about a lifestyle in natural surroundings, about the wildlife around you. Cheers, Ardith

  3. Your house looks so lovely as always. It's one of the few tiny houses I know of where I like the all-wood-interior (it's a nice light colour, which makes it less full on). But I can see why you're going for the white, it will look lovely with the navy curtains and green plants. White and natural wood together looks amazing, I'd like to do that for my own tiny house one day.

    1. Thanks. I think I'll keep the ceiling natural for sure and probably all the window frames. And since all the cabinets and floor are natural wood too, there will still be plenty of that. But I do really like white. Every time I see a photo of a house and think, "I really like that design!" it has white wall, natural wood, and very neutral other colors.

  4. I must have missed reading the post - where is your comfy brown chair? I can see you curled up in it reading away the long winter's days

    1. It's now residing in the living room of a friend's house. He needed a little chair, and I am really enjoying the extra free space and open floor. Besides, My little corner couch is pretty comfy too. It's where I am curled up right now actually. ;)

  5. This is my favorite tiny house. You have a "cook's kitchen." What I have hated about the tiny house concept was living like you are in perpetual camp out or dorm life. This is a tiny house you can bake a loaf of bread in. The couch in the bump out looks so comfortable. This is the best thought out house to date. I can't wait to see the white interior. I think it will look so elegant.

    1. Yeah cooking is a huge part of my life so my whole house was designed around that. You can bake 3 loaves of bread at a time if you want in here. I have. Or use full sized cookie sheets. Or fit a 20 pound turkey in the oven. Thank you for your kind comments!

  6. Hi, you have a lovely home. I couldn't help notice your flooring, did you use cork tiles/inlays? I am looking into using cork for my flooring. As for painting your walls white, I am sure it will come up stunning but if you decide not to, I think your home is just ideal as is.

    1. My floor is cork. I like it pretty well. It's easy to clean, seems to be wearing well so far, and is comfortable to walk around on. So far I am happy with it and do not expect that to change. And thank you. The painting will happen sooner or later I think, but I have so many projects going on right now, I haven't even started yet!

  7. Thanks for sharing these pictures of your beautiful home! It's good to see photos of a house well-lived-in. Often the photos people post are of an empty house, or one that looks like it was staged just for photos after it was built. Seeing your full kitchen and furnishings helps me imagine how my stuff would fit. I'm also glad to see that you cook and bake in your tiny home. So often it seems like the kitchen is an after thought. Beautiful!

    1. I'm glad it was helpful. I know what you mean, but lots of people don't cook so it makes sense that the kitchen is an afterthought. For me however, it was the first thought and my whole house was designed around having a functional kitchen.

    1. Ha. It just has to stay organized most of the time or I get stressed out.

  11. Oh, good. I was going to ask you if the flooring was cork and if it was wearing well, and now don't have to. The pooch and I will be tracking in lots of snow, mud, and sand and I need an appropriate floor.

I also really like the white with wood ceiling and trim look, Brittany Yunker's Bayside Bungalow being the one that comes to mind.

  16. I love the house! I do a lot of cooking too so your kitchen is nearly perfect. I'd have lowered the stove vent a bit, put the towels toward the front of the shelf, with the knives behind it a bit higher on the wall. No inset porch, so the living space is a bit bigger, fold down porch instead. Door on the side.
Love the brightness, the light, the natural wood! And books....a house isn't a home for me without books. I hope to have a tiny house of my own someday.
