Wood Cutting

Part of what I have been busy with (and hence hadn't been posting much) is wood cutting. Clearing out dead beetle kill pine, cleaning the slash up, and splitting a bunch of firewood. A lot of work, but the kind of work I enjoy. Only one smashed and one split finger later, we've done about 13 cords of wood. Paying down my tiny house loan!

  1. That is a lot of wood!! Do you even have a wood stove? You must be in great shape. I always said the best gym would have a wood pile and a snow machine and you would go in and shovel snow or stack wood. Everyone would be in great shape! :)

    1. It sure is. And no, I don't have a wood stove, this was all sold to other folks plus some that I was able to give away to some good friends that are getting old enough to have a hard time cutting their own.

  2. Is that a log splitter in the background or are you doing it by hand with an axe?

    1. That is a log splitter. I really enjoy splitting by hand, but this many cords would take me a very long time, so I was glad to be able to use that.

    1. Thank you. I really don't like owing anyone money, and had no debt before buying my house. I just want to get back to that as soon as possible.

  6. One of my favorite bushcraft activities is wood cutting. I usually do a lot of wood cutting when in the backcountry. The one tool that makes the cutting easier is my wood splitting maul. Check out the top ten wood splitting mauls here: http://survival-mastery.com/diy/useful-tools/best-wood-splitting-maul.html
