Sick Day in a Tiny House

Yes it happens. As I've tried to show with my blog, buying a tiny house is not going to turn your whole life into rainbows and ponies. You can still get sick for instance.

I'm on day three now of calling in sick to work and barley leaving my couch or bed. I don't know what I have but you don't want it. It's some kind of nasty cold leaving me feeling all stuffy, with a headache, eyes too heavy to keep open, achy all over, constantly running red nose, sneezing, diarrhea, and a fever. Probably tmi, but like I said, you don't want whatever I have. I'm just trying to rest and get well, but since I can't sleep all day I figured I'd write a post too.

It could be far worse I know. My house is comfortable and cozy. A moose came by to keep me company and is bedded down right across my lane right now.

I have a laptop and internet so I can listen to something while laying around feeling miserable. I have kleenex. And hot tea, homemade bone broth, homegrown garlic, echinacea, turmeric, colloidal silver, elderberry syrup, etc. And my hot brew of ginger, honey, apple cider vinegar, lemon juice, cinnamon, and cayenne pepper.

Apparently my fever is making my body want some warm temps. That little stove is keeping the house at almost 90 degrees F. And it feels good to me. That's about the only time I have gotten up. To shove some more logs in the stove.

While just outside my door it is quite the opposite. I think the temps hit -30 something F. last night, but it's warmed up a little now.

One of the things that come with having a job like waiting tables is that when you are sick (and you get lots of chances to be exposed to the whole world's germs due to all the people you are around every day), you don't make any money. And it gets costly to take a lot of days off work. At least I do know what it's costing me is just the ability to pay off my house faster and don't have to actually stress about any set bills since mine are so low every month. If I don't start to feel better in something like the next hour, I'm going to have to get tomorrow covered too.

I have too much stuff to do for this! I should be working. And shoveling snow. And getting ready for the 30-40 more inches we are supposed to get in the next few days. And working out. And photographing. And so on. But I'm off to curl up and take another nap and try to let my body heal it's self. Sigh. If I'm not better by tomorrow morning I might have to go for a more toxic form of cure than immune support, natural germ killers, and rest.

Maybe this is the kick in the butt I needed to get back on track with being strict about all the I-know-I-don't-feel-good-when-I-eat-it stuff. No more dairy, wheat, and sugar junk for me. Getting back to Crossfit twice a week, at least once I'm not feeling like this anymore. Fasting regularly. Something that looks tasty for a moment is not worth running my body down till I feel like this.

So, yes. There are days like this even when most photos may make it look like I live in a dream world of mountains and wildlife. Here's hoping you all are enjoying an illness free week where ever you are!

By any chance, is there an acupuncturist in your area? I was sick last year, self-treating with only natural therapies (as always). After three weeks in bed, I dragged my sorry butt to the acupuncturist. She took one look at me and said, "If you were family, I'd throw you in the car and take you to the E.R. for a steroid shot! People in your condition DIE!" PFFFT!! I told her the reason I was at her office is because I DID NOT WANT a steroid shot! She went ahead and pinned me up and was amazed at how fast I responded. Within three days, I was a new person! Haven't been sick since! Hallelujah!! Thank you Lord! ;-)

    1. My doctor is also an acupuncturist thankfully and has worked on me several times in the past. If I'm not feeling better by tomorrow I will be headed to see him.

  6. Try not to be so hard on yourself. Even the strictest, health conscious athletes catch colds. You live a good clean life, the cold will leave in time. Take care of your soul. Thank you for the beautiful photos, they bring me peace.

  7. Ariel, being independent and off grid is great but as you have surmised the ability to have a passive income stream is also important. Getting a sponsor for your videos or monetising your content using google you may be able to generate some income that way too. Writing a book or a guide would be excellent you are articulate and communicative and a pleasure to listen to. Now for another way to generate a passive income when you can please look into Bitcoin and Ethereum with Ethereum being the best method to secure some savings moving forward.
Reduced to its essence saving money in the bank pays nearly no interest. Saving money in Ethereum and Bitcoin allowed me to have 3 months off work last year. I didnt do anything radical just saved $25 or so a month and the price of Bitcoin kept going up and down but mostly up. Ethereum is just starting its 1 year old and will be growing in value and price over the next few years. If you are bored you should read a little bit about it. I have invested using Ethereum in a Gold Company DGD-DAO and the interesting thing is the yearly dividends they will be paying to people who own and hold the Digix token. (If you are following me) Once you own the DGD DAO token you are paid every year (4 times a year) from the Gold sales that the company makes. (Passive income) You are paid every year every quarter in Gold Back tokens representing 1 Gram of Gold which sells for about $38 dollars right about now.
The cost for 1 share of DGD-DAO is only about $9 dollars right now which is not cheap because you need Ethereum or Bitcoin to buy them. Ethereum is trading for $14-$19 a coin. All of this is probably boring you..But PASSIVE income is money you make by doing nothing other than you would normally do. Saving is secondary for you right now with your mortgage I know..but..I would like to see you building a Crypto Currency Portfolio which will help support you nd Fy Nith in the future. There is an opportunity here for you over the next couple of years to build some savings in a vehicle that will outperform the bank rate and makes you and your computer essentially your own bank.
We are an active and growing sub reddit /r/ethtrader and I hope you do some reading . I have built a small Portfolio which will hopefully provide about $14,000 a year in income to start once the company goes live. (its just starting up they launched last year) The other thing you can do is add a BITCOIN or ETHERUM address to all your post to allow people to support you and your Blog. (you are independent people like to Tip the people and content they like) Ethereum and Bitcoin are made to do that. Wow long post..sorry..Ciao
