Mostly Moved In!

...Or at least most of my stuff is in the house now. Much of it still need some organization. The last few things we are planning to move tomorrow. As soon as it's consistently warm in there, the house plants will follow, adding some color to the current scheme of brown on brown on brown. Once I make them, the curtains should add some color as well. Maybe a shade of blue? Though I like keeping most things really neutral. And I still think I want to paint some of the walls white. Though I love natural wood, as you can see, I have an awful lot of it right now and I think some white would brighten things up and add light. Though with 15 windows in my place, there might be enough light already.

  1. I like the stair/storage combo. Looks easier to climb than a ladder, plus the drawer space!

  2. My comment seems to have disappeared, so apologies if it appears twice! Your tiny house is beautiful!!! I will be moving off-grid in the next year and wondered how are you getting electricity during the winter months. I live in Western Oregon, so we don't typically get the kind of winters you do in WY! :)

  3. Archi-Scot, yes I like it a lot. The drawers do add a ton of storage and even though the stairs are narrow and steep, I find them much nicer than a ladder. And I am kind of young and nimble.

Thanks Kirsten! Check out my post http://fynyth.blogspot.com/2014/11/we-almost-have-power.html and read my comments on it as well for info on the power setup. I do plan to write a more detailed post on that subject once I have everything up and running.

    1. 16'' is the width of the inside of the step. If you count the rails on both sides, it measures 19" to the outside edges of them.

  5. Hi Ariel. I'm so thankful for people like you that's sharing your TinyHouse journey. I had finely saw a TinyHouse that grabbed me and wouldn't go. Two months after I decided to sale my home and build a TinyHome I broke my back. Yeap, one minute I'm rearranging my living room, packing up my nick knacks to stage my house to sale then went to walk my dog and didn't make it back home but to the ER. So I'm a good year and half behind. But at times (as odd as this would sound) what worse is none of my friends or family is for me going Tiny; its not stopping me. Going to a TinyHouse to me just seems so right, for so many reasons. So I spend a lot of time online researching and talking to other people whom has done what I'm just getting started. And its nice.
One thing, I am curious if you do paint your walls white. When I first was sketching my tiny house I was visualizing it with white walls but I love the color of natural wood and now I'm torn because I can finally have a house look the way I like with the natural wood, but I'm also aware that the white walls will make it look bigger.
I have a question I haven't been able to ask. With the trailer being about 7 1/2 wide on the inside and especially in front of the kitchen counter do you ever fill like the walls are closing in? I cook a lot too and that's the only thing I've questioned. The setting area and bedrooms are fine. I'm like you, single, so there won't be two people 24/7 in the kitchen.
By chance Do you know how much your TinyHouse weighs (with or without belongings)? Lastly what kind of vehicle do you use to tow your tiny house? I tell ya I have tons of questions and no one to ask, but I eventually find someone.
A funny situation,,, I had some major questions about big trucks, 350 truchs and up. Well, three days ago I was at a gas station and low and behold there was semi-truck driver bobtailing getting gas, so I went over and introduced myself. I asked him if he had a few minutes that I had some questions about heavy-duty trucks. He spent about 15-20 minutes talking to me, but gave me so much more than 15 or 20 minutes worth in answers to questions. That just made my day. Just like when TinyHouse owner shares there start ups. So once again, Thanks!

  7. Moving into our new tiny house the day of closing was a real adventure. I remember that we packed and unloaded a rental truck ourselves, and without anyone to help, we crawled in at midnight with the last box and passed out on the living room floor. I have to admit, in our own house this was the best night sleep I had in many years.
