One thing I have heard several times is that many of you appreciate seeing a tiny house actually being lived in, not just photos of it looking like a showroom. Well I do actually live in mine. And I do actually like keeping everything neat and tidy. But life does happen and things don't always stay that way. Here are some of the messiest shots I have of my house. Or at least the ones that show activities going on in my house during day to day life. Like getting ready for dinner above. Or hanging out with my friend Seth (who due to a back injury doesn't do much typical sitting right now ;) and watching fishing clips on youtube.
There's sometimes food cooling on my porch along with the snow shovels, grill, and ski polls that reside there most of the time.
Working out can happen. The loft edge seems to work for doing pull ups if you are strong enough. And there is usually food on the stove.
Hanging out on the couch while browsing the internet, and making plans for the backpacking and fishing trips this summer.
Items get dropped on the chair or floor when I come home sometimes and the sink drainer seems to have dishes piled up most of the time thanks to cooking a lot.
Some construction projects happen and the house gets totally disorganized, tools are everywhere, and sawdust covers the floor.
More dishes and dish washing, and just the random coats, laptops, and cameras laying around. Just in case you thought my house always looked perfect, you are now disillusioned. Though I do really find having much clutter around stressful, so most of the time my place really is tidy. ;)
I really like your bookshelves up by the loft! How do you access your storage loft? Is there also an outlet up there?
ReplyDeleteI just stand on my couch since I'm fairly tall and don't access the stuff up there super frequently that works for me. And yes, I'm sure there's one but I think there are two outlets. I just don't feel like moving all my boxes right now to check for sure. ;)
DeleteJust checked and there is at least two outlets, one on each side. There may actually be a third one in the back, but I didn't move everything else to check it's location.
DeleteIt's lovely! Honestly, this is the first tiny house that I've seen that I wouldn't change a thing. Not a thing.
ReplyDeleteWell thank you!
DeleteI feel the same way! I wonder if I can ask Tumbleweed to build me the Ariel McGlothin Plan??? LOL
DeleteI think you can! And I believe a few others have as well.
DeleteDid you change your kitchen sink or was the small one in the bathroom? The big one is fantastic! Love the included drainer and double sinks! So fancy with the goose neck faucet! Love your house, but having a tiny house in such a cold climate must be a challenge. Winter clothes are huge and you have to leave them out to dry off. Where do you keep your boots? On the porch? And hat, mittens, scarves ect? When they are dry you can stuff them in your sleeve, but where do you put them to dry out when you come in from shoveling?
ReplyDeleteI did switch sinks. The wrong one was installed originally and yes, I love the double sink with the drainer. The high faucet lets me more easily was large things in the sink so it is pretty nice too.
DeleteAs far as winter stuff, I hang all my coats, scarves, and hats on the hooks inside the door. You can see them in the last photo in this post. They dry pretty well there. I have a little tray on the floor right below them which is where boots and such sit to dry. It holds all the water from melting snow, and if there gets to be a lot, you can just dump it outside.
I agree with Hannah completely !!
ReplyDeleteI'm glad you like it! Are you building one yourself?
DeleteLove the guest room. You've packed a good sized apartment into a tiny package.

ReplyDeleteThank you. I am pretty happy with my place.
DeleteAwesome pictures! I wonder, how do you feel about the double sink? For some reason, I keep thinking the double sink might be more wasteful than needed.
ReplyDeleteI love it. With the amount of cooking I do, it would be really hard for me to work with only one sink. For me it is not wasted space at all, but everyone's needs and habits are different so it certainly could be for you or someone else.
DeleteThank you so much for these photos. I am hoping to begin the process of having a tiny home built for me soon and there is a serious lack of photos online of "lived in" homes. This better helps me visualize the reality of day-to-day life.
ReplyDeleteYou are welcome. I noticed several people who said they were looking for something more realistic and representative of daily life than all the showroom looking shots we all take when our houses are tidied up for photos. Hence this post. Glad it was helpful!
DeleteWe like your stairs to the loft. What is the spacing between each step and how wide did you make the ladder/steps? Do they feel comfortable to you? How much floor space/distance in inches, is taken up by the steps, from the front of the ladder to just under your loft on the floor? Trying to figure what is a comfortable amount of spacing for the ladder/stairs to our loft. How high is your loft off the floor? Anyone else out there have input on this subject? Thanks!
ReplyDeleteThere are 12'' of hight between each step. The steps are 16'' wide as you look at them from the front. The base of the whole stair case/drawer unit is 3' out from the loft edge. The top of the loft floor is 81'' above the downstairs floor. I do like my stairs pretty well. They are steep and feel more like climbing a ladder than normal stairs, but they fit well and provide a lot of storage.
DeleteLove your house but I would need a bed downstairs. Is there room where your couch to put a twin bed ? Mary
ReplyDeleteSure, that would be possible. I don't mind the stairs, so for me it's not issue, but I know a lot of people don't like loft beds.
DeleteLove your home. I didn't see your sweet wood stove...so cozy
ReplyDeleteThe wood stove had not been added yet when this post was written. And thank you!
DeleteWhat is the brown square looking thing behind the dish drainer? Chopping board? Do you have a propane quick water heater, or a small one somewhere? And what is the black square like thing near the bottom of the sofa, near the door? Thanks!
ReplyDeleteYes, there are three cutting boards resting against the wall back there. And the other little black thing is the monitor for the power coming in from my solar panels.
DeleteAmused. I cannot relate to the "where," "how," etc. (s) per us present-era humans. That we have become this ultra-domesticated...
