Even though I didn't build my own house, I do try to reuse and repurpose as many things as I can in my life because I don't like waste. Those old lockers that are now planters around my house had lots of little hooks in them. After pulling those, I used some of them to get the shoes off the floor right inside my door. I do still have a pan there for setting really muddy pairs or big boots, but all the smaller shoes hang pretty nicely and are out of the way. I think I'll like this setup!
Transitioning from a house to a home. Keep up the good work. :)
ReplyDeleteHow's the mold problem? Looks like quite a bit by the door there. Seems like a lot for how new the house is. What's your forecast for that problem?
ReplyDeleteThe mold has not been an issue for several months now. I assume it will be somewhat again once the weather gets cold this fall. What you are seeing by the door is actually rust from the hinges. It stained the wood when moisture would condense on them all winter.
DeleteMy SIP manufacturer has taken a decidedly proprietary interest in my tiny house. They are assembling it for free, cameras rolling and have helped me line up the various contractors to get it finished. They have repeatedly impressed upon me the necessity of installing an air handler/dehumidifier to keep mold out of my SIPs. If I don't comply, I'm not sure they've ruled out flogging...

Nice. Do you have photos of your house? Sounds neat. When will it be done?
DeleteNo pics yet. I'll let you know when the company, Insulspan, has loaded the build footage on their website. After the SIP assembly, I'm hoping the exterior siding, roofing, etc., and interior trim will be done and the house moved to my campsite by Labor Day, but I'll be happy with anytime in September. Then I'll have to line up the other trades to get it move-in ready. I don't really need to move in until next summer so I'm willing to spend time and let the interior evolve.
