It's continued to be cold, with little new snowfall over the past few days. Though there is more in the forecast which is
exciting!
These beautiful crystals are not snowflakes, but actually "diamond dust" that fell out of the air overnight when it was below zero with no clouds, and in this photo are laying on top of the snowpack. "Diamond dust is a ground-level cloud composed of tiny ice crystals. This meteorological phenomenon is also referred to simply as ice crystals and is reported in the METAR code as IC. Diamond dust generally forms under otherwise clear or nearly clear skies, so it is sometimes referred to as clear-sky precipitation. Diamond dust is most commonly observed in Antarctica and the Arctic, but can occur anywhere with a temperature well below freezing. In the polar regions (or Wyoming, my addition) of Earth, diamond dust may persist for several days without interruption." - https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Diamond_dust . Isn't the crystal structure just stunning?
With Burley around, there's no more neat tidy untracked snow around Fy Nyth. :) He adores bounding through the snow. Wether around our house, walking along a creek, or chasing sticks or his frisbee.
It puts quite the doggy smile on his face!
Enjoy your evening and stay as cozy as we are!
I would enjoy my evening even more if I was watching a few new videos about you and Burley! So sorry that matters don't seem to be resolved and so unfair to those you-tubers like you who want to share their experiences and teach and entertain at the same time! My husband and I, who don't want to ever live in a tiny house, but are fascinated by how you manage yours in your surroundings -- miss you.
ReplyDeleteThanks for the kind wishes and I'm so glad to hear you've been enjoying them.
DeleteNice pics. Thank you for the update. Do miss your vids, but understand your concerns.

DeleteHello Ariel ! I've often seen that phenomenon in the Poconos in winter . Never knew it was called Diamond Dust! How cool ! Literally! ... Be Well... CatYear75 ( Christopher)
ReplyDeleteNeat! Isn't is amazing to see?
DeleteI have seen diamond dust in Minnesota but didn't know it had a name. It's so beautiful and glittery,
ReplyDeleteLove the pics of Burley enjoying the snow! :)
Isn't it amazing?
DeleteYour snow photos prompt memories. We've had a stretch of sunny blue skies, 30-40ish temps. Pedestrian and dog walker weather. Zsa Zsa aka Gladys, my foster tortie, enjoys watching all the action from her numerous third story window perches.
ReplyDeleteSounds like she's got a great place to observe the world from!
DeleteAhah! I've seen this several times when we've gone skiing. I always thought was just snow flakes drifting out of the trees. I will henceforth, refer to them as Diamond Dust. Thank you, you are a fountain of knowledge. Hope to see you back on YouTube soon. Nothing quite compares to a Burley froicking though the snow.
ReplyDeleteHe sure seems to love it! :)
DeleteReally missing your vlogs. I live vicariously through your independent, industrious and brave life as a woman off the grid. Would never have the courage to do it myself but I love following your journey! Hoping for a positive resolution soon!
ReplyDeleteI hope you're able to pursue whatever you care most about!
DeleteEnjoy the snow! We are supposed to get some more this week.
ReplyDeleteEnjoy yours too!
DeleteBurley is a proponent for entropy. "Take that, neat tidy untouched snow! Hi-yah!"
ReplyDeleteIt's my hope that Ariel finds another home for her vlogs. If YouTube's refusing to be the repository for mankind's future, there are other places out there.. Aren't there?
I think something like that is what goes through his head. :)
Deletemy God!, How have thing's come to this Sad series of event's. Continued good luck to you Ariel, i sorely and surely miss you video's.
ReplyDeleteI'm glad to hear you were enjoying them. We'll see what happens.
DeleteDear Ariel, This the first time I've seen your home and read your blog. Won't be the last!! You are a delight. I have been discovering the "Tiny House" phenomenon just recently. I am 65 and still working. I enjoy my work, life and family. My dog is an Australian Shepherd named Caylee. Ceili in the Gaelic meaning "joyful dance" Decided to catch up with the 21st century, use my computer to learn more about life today and yesterday and see how people can blend the two. I look forward to following your blog and enjoying your adventures and life. Caylee loves the snow too. crm
ReplyDeleteWelcome! Thanks for joining us all here. That's a lovely name and meaning. She sounds like a great companion.

I live in canada but i would do anything for a woman as interesting and beautiful at the same time!
ReplyDeleteI like the "diamond dust". Never seen anything like it. Came across "frost flowers" another not seen in my area item this afternoon. http://www.msn.com/en-us/weather/topstories/rare-frost-flowers-seen-in-southern-colorado-on-christmas-eve/ar-BBYqvHc?ocid=HPCOMMDHP15 Have you seen these in your area? If so, so lucky.
ReplyDeleteI have seen the frost flowers too. They are pretty stunning! With the very cold temps here, they form pretty regularly.
DeleteJust wondering why no new videos in four months, the last one was about some issues with YouTube, are they preventing you from uploading new ones?
ReplyDeleteWhile I'm still very concerned any time any level of government tries to criminalize people's peaceful interactions with each other, at the moment I'm also too busy to do videos. There will hopefully be more somewhere someday.
