Random Spring Stuff around the Tiny House

Just a few quick glimpses into some spring chores over the past little bit. Though it's rapidly turning into summer around here! Before most of the spring things can really start, I'm usually itching to get going on stuff, so it's a good time
to get a start on the firewood store for next winter.

Just after the snow melts, one of the things I help with is dragging meadows. That just involves pulling a heavy metal toothed thing like this around all the hay fields. It helps break up any manure piles, rodent dirt piles, and the layer of snow mold to smooth everything out and allow the new grass to break through. Burley loves to ride along in the tractor with me.

And things got green around the house too. Including several meals of wonderful fresh asparagus.

Various spring wildlife have been around and as always, I enjoy watching them.

Burley loves his frisbee and almost any other fetching type game.

One of the beautiful night time views of the moon.

While he loves being active, when I do have stuff to do inside, sleeping on my feet is usually Burley's favorite spot. 😊

Even as things green down lower, new snow continues to fall in the higher areas. Most recently, last week.

As always, we both hope you are all enjoying your time as well!

  6. LOVE your bird pictures. . . waiting for more FOX pictures!!! What size "husky" do you run?? Maybe a blade sharpening, maintenance tutorial for your chainsaw?! Maybe smaller chainsaws would become vogue for the ladies?! Blessings! S. Carolina

    1. I haven't seen kits out yet, but hope to! That little saw is this one - https://amzn.to/31pBSy8 . I acquired mine second hand from an older gentleman I do some work for. It's a really good size for most of what I need to cut up and for me to be able to handle well. Shhhh.... don't tell anyone that sharpening a chain is a skill I'm still working on learning from a friend who's really good at it. :)

    2. My husband swears by Buckin Billy Rae to learn chain saw sharpening. We heat solely by wood and can never get enough of it.

  7. What a handsome devil Burley is! Sorry but I forgot if he‘s a he or a she 😬 But just goes to prove how well you‘re taking care of him/ her. That pup has the shiniest fur I‘ve ever seen! Miss you guys much 🤓

    1. He's a he. But he doesn't offend very easily. :) I would guess his raw diet he's been on since his mama weaned him onto her food probably has something to do with that.

    1. We've had warm days, a few into the 80's which is a bit rare. But many at or near freezing too. I'm expecting frost the next three nights.

  18. I love your pictures of snowy places. The island where I live is tucked into the Bay of St Malo (off north-west France) and is warmed by the Gulf Stream. Snow is very rare. We go years between getting any. When it does, daily life stops and we all go a little crazy enjoying it! Kind regards.

  20. I just watched your video that you put up a few days ago. That reminded me to check this blog. The other day I was wondering if you seeded your lawn area with clover or did it just blow in? Were you able to make use of the tool that I had sent to you for the logs?

    1. My "lawn" is actually all wild. After trimming back the larger brush, which still tries to grow back, but stays short as long as I mow it, the grasses, clovers, dandelions, wild strawberries, violets, etc that make up the green are all just what grows naturally. Whenever I move out I'm sure the brush will grow back up and you'll not be able to tell it ever looked like a lawn. :)

  21. I also follow a couple called Trent and Allie. In their last video they revealed they purchased land in the mountains of Utah. I suggested to them that they follow you. I hope they do.

  22. I love your photos and captions! Burley is so handsome. The green up is lovely. But I like the gray skies and snow too. Here in western Montana we have had quite a lot of rain to the point that the sagebrush is bent over.

I'm looking forward to hearing how the garden makeover does keeping the critters at bay.

  23. Hi There. Thank you for sharing all about your tiny house off grid and garden life in the area you live in. I keep looking at this kind of lifestyle for myself. I am in Arizona and retired but with projects and services to offer that include creating content to share.
Most of my likes are similar to yours with nature. I appreciate your thoughtfulness and sharing how a single gal can have the life you have! Do you recommend it for someone 60 plus?

    1. I'm 62, pretty good shape. My thought is of the ladder to the loft/bedroom. How are your legs/knees/hips/ankles/hips/etc, if ok...for how long?

    2. You are most welcome! Everyone and what they can handle is different, but I have other friends in their 60's or older who are living similar lifestyles. You might like checking out my friend Moose's channel where he chronicles his adventures. https://www.youtube.com/c/MooseHenderson1 And if lofts are a problem, there are tiny house layouts with first floor bedrooms.
